Long before the age of Libra We marched across the Terra Nova With those who grew From different branches Of our sacred tree One day we gazed Behind our footsteps And saw all the leaves — Had fallen Onward we march Hearing voices in the wind Speaking to unseen idols Sensing the presence of spirits Telling stories of folk That dwell in caves Hide in the woods Watch us in the night Who listen — To our pleas We probe the dark With outstretched hands Step into different realms To meet the clockwork elves Search the countless stars To find those who come from afar Bind the binary seas To chat with artificial dreams For deep down In our genetic soul We know We were once Not alone
Humans have an obsession that seems to be more than an interest, but a deep need to communicate with something other than us.
From domesticating animals as pets
Praying to deities and ancestors
Tales of dwarves, elves, spirits
Searching for extraterrestrials, Bigfoot, and other cryptids
Drugging ourselves to speak to beings on other planes
Creating artificial intelligence
We are a lonely species, unsatisfied with communicating with ourselves.
I have been wondering lately, if that loneliness comes from our ancient past. I heard a theory that the uncanny valley phenomenon might originate from our previous encounters with other hominids. There is even evidence of other hominids being hostile to early humans.
I wonder if the opposite is true. We have mixed DNA from several lines of hominids. We might as a result, also have a lingering expectation. Instincts meant to be triggered by non-aggressive beings similar to us that searching for an outlet to express themselves. A familiar valley.
Just a thought from watching 2001: A Space Odessey for a second time. Those long scenes give too much time to think.
Nice to see creativity flowing out from the Cinema Club cicle! Enjoyed the musical voice-over as well!
